December 3, 2024 · 3 min read timeIn a significant commitment to global climate action, Nitor has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to set company-wide near-term targets and long-term net-zero goals for their emissions.
The SBTi initiative encourages companies to take climate action in line with the emission reduction goals of the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Joining the initiative requires a commitment to the program, calculating the company's carbon footprint according to the GHG Protocol, and setting credible and ambitious emission reduction targets.
Through this alignment, Nitor is accelerating its commitment to sustainable digital development and helping to address climate sustainability. The commitment engages Nitor in setting emission targets and creating an emission reduction roadmap over the next two years.
As the adoption of digital services accelerates, expectations from partners across the value chain are rising. Nitor recognises that operating responsibly within this ecosystem demands meaningful climate action, which is now a fundamental part of its commitment to customers, partners, and society.
“The SBTi commitment strengthens our position to meet evolving customer expectations, as more customers require stronger sustainability practices throughout the value chain. This supports our vision for sustainable digital development and promotes environmental responsibility,” states Olli Auvinen, CEO of Nitor.
This year, Nitor appointed former Sustainability Engineer Ari Koli as Director of Sustainability. With this role, Nitor underscores its dedication to embedding sustainability into its core strategy. Koli will lead the development and implementation of Nitor’s sustainability strategy and roadmap, ensuring measurable progress towards meeting its ambitious climate goals.
“For the past three years, we’ve focused intensively on making Nitor’s operations environmentally responsible by committing to credible initiatives that align with global sustainability standards and taking concrete actions to fulfil these commitments. These include earning WWF’s Green Office certification for our Helsinki office and transparently reporting on our progress through UN Global Compact Communications on Progress and CDP. Gaining approval to join the SBTi is another milestone that reflects the ambition of Nitor’s climate goals, underscores the central role that reducing our climate impact plays in our strategy, and highlights our commitment to being a responsible partner for our customers, ” Koli concludes.
