Finland’s leading commercial television company, MTV Oy, has decided to outsource the digital development and maintenance of the MTV Uutiset news service to Nitor. MTV Uutiset is a popular news service with over 1.5 million weekly users.

MTV Uutiset has selected Nitor as its strategic partner to design and develop the MTV Uutiset website and mobile applications, as well as handle their 24/7 maintenance.

”We are transforming our digital development approach, and it makes perfect sense to consolidate both the maintenance and development of our services under a single provider. We wanted a partner capable of providing comprehensive services throughout the entire lifecycle of digital services. This consolidation brings various efficiencies in ongoing maintenance, support functions, and development, but also from a financial perspective. The digital engineering company Nitor was a natural choice as we have long trusted their expertise,” says Merja Multas, Head of MTV Uutiset Product and Technology.

MTV Uutiset is one of Finland’s leading news media outlets, and its online service is among the most used in the country. The company provides news and current affairs programs around the clock, ensuring that the audience has access to the newsroom at any time, from anywhere. Operational reliability is essential to news trustworthiness, a cornerstone of MTV Uutiset’s operations. Nitor’s Site Reliability Engineers are capable of handling potential disruptions in digital services 24/7.

”For a news service, ensuring accessibility and reliable operation is essential: access to information must not be blocked by digital barriers. Nitor has been developing MTV’s digital services for years, but now we are taking primary responsibility for ensuring this important Finnish digital news service operates 24/7. Our service meets all the diverse needs of a news service constantly in motion, for example, through AI and automation,” says Olli Auvinen, CEO of Nitor.

”MTV and Nitor share a culture of getting things done with determination and efficiency. Our shared values and straightforward cooperation made it natural for us to take on this responsibility. It is an honour to be able to develop such a significant institution that is so strongly present in Finns’ everyday lives,” says Jami Sjöblom, Head of Sales and Growth at Nitor.

Nitor is responsible for the continuous development of MTV Uutiset’s website and mobile service. In practice, this development work involves creating new consumer features, building backend services within the AWS environment, and utilising the CoreMedia CMS content management solution as part of the overall solution. MTV Uutiset’s modern, cloud-based content management enables fast, flexible, and reliable content production, along with a personalised user experience.

”We specialize in sustainable digital development: the service is running, evolving, and delivering value to its users every day. Cloud environments have reshaped the nature of maintenance work, enhancing efficiency whilst also demanding a thorough understanding of cloud tools and automation. For us, seamless collaboration between development and maintenance is essential, as we bear full responsibility for the continuous success of the service,” says Janne Alho, Managing Director of Nitor Care services.
