What is this role actually?
Your job is to structure what the client is really trying to achieve, define a realistic path to it, and stay close enough to delivery that the intent survives contact with production. AI is the lever here, not the point. What matters first is the judgement to know which bets are worth taking, and the credibility to carry a room of senior stakeholders with you.
The shape of the work varies a lot by client. For some it's a focused AI and data strategy for one part of the business. For others it's broader: cross-channel and increasingly agentic processes that run across several products, channels, and functions at once, where the real question is how the whole organisation should work. This kind of work has come up concretely in our client cases over the past year. Often the client doesn't yet know whose problem this is, or where in the organisation the change should land. Drawing that boundary, while it's still being drawn, is a core part of the job.
Across an engagement, the day-to-day looks something like:
Leading early, ambiguous AI and data conversations with business leaders, and turning vague ambition into clear problems, options, and decisions
Shaping AI and data strategies, operating models, and roadmaps that fit the client's real maturity and context, not a template
Designing the roles, governance, and ways of working a transformation needs to survive past the kickoff
Bridging business and technical teams so the intent set in strategy still stands when engineers are building
Staying close as the work moves from slides to delivery, and protecting the business value while it gets built
Helping clients see where AI genuinely fits their processes and business model, and where it doesn't, and being willing to say "not yet"
Coaching the client's own leaders and teams to carry the change, so the capability stays when we leave
Joining early client conversations and helping shape what we propose, because at Nitor we sell through expertise, not through offerings we have to push
Pushing broader transformation themes with clients rather than only reacting to incoming requests, and feeding what you learn back into how Nitor does this work
What could you bring with you?
There's no clean checklist, but here's the shape of it.
A track record of leading real change
You're likely to have one or more of the following: advisory or consulting experience in strategy, digital, or data and AI transformation; experience in a larger organisation in a broader role, carrying responsibility across many stakeholders; or a proven record of leading or owning a real transformation. This is not an entry-level role. You need enough behind you to be credible in a room of senior stakeholders, up to C-level, and the judgement that only comes from having done it. Your experience and the lessons in it are what let you lead this in an accelerating AI era, without pretending anyone arrives with a finished playbook.
You leave people capable, not dependent
You can drive a change yourself when the client needs someone to hold the pen, and you've done it. But you measure success by what the client can run without you once you're gone: who owns which decision, what gets escalated and to whom, and whether the operating model survives contact with a busy quarter. You coach the client's own leaders as you go, not just at the end.
You turn ambiguity into decisions
You're comfortable in early-phase, undefined conversations, and you can turn them into clear problems, options, and decisions. You can make complex things legible for others with simple models and visuals that help people align, and you know a model is a means, not the point. You can navigate a complex organisation with many stakeholders, competing interests, and internal politics without losing the thread.
AI and data judgement, in the language of the business
You can tell the difference between a technically elegant AI solution and one the organisation's actual data, governance, and decision-making can support. Value here rarely comes from the model itself; it comes from whether the organisation can act consistently on what the model produces. You translate that judgement for people who don't live in the detail: what's realistic given where the client actually is, not where the vendor slide says they should be.
A preference for honesty over buzzwords
You'd rather have a content-driven conversation than a fashionable one, and you have the backbone to say "no" or "not yet" when something doesn't make sense. You know a transformation is real when it shows up in budgets, decision rights, and what gets measured, not in how polished the roadmap slide looks.
