Fly4You is a simulation game that helps to understand how daily work is linked to the company's strategy. It enables quick realisations about the business's pain points. The game focuses on implementing the strategy with a focus on outcomes instead of outputs.

Course description

Fly4You is a one-day simulation where the participants practice clarifying a joint understanding of the company's vision and goals and how to bring this into planning and execution. The participants take different roles and work together in forming the organisation's goals and a prioritised backlog that supports achieving these goals.

The simulation creates an understanding of how daily work is connected to strategy, the phases of strategy implementation, and on what basis to prioritise the work. The simulation offers practices and methods for joint planning and execution.

The simulation is especially beneficial for understanding product management as a whole and the challenges related to it. Teamwork, goal orientation, and the impacts of chosen tasks form the core of the simulation. Participants also practice finding solutions as a team and defining concrete outcomes with which the organisation reaches the chosen strategic objectives.

Contents

In the simulation game, participants put themselves in the position of an airline company promoting and selling flights. The company adopted an agile operating model eight weeks prior. During the game, the participants aim to improve the operations and create new objectives that support the strategy. After elucidating the strategic goals, the team goes through possible challenges when progressing toward them. Then, they make a Kanban board and a prioritised work backlog to reach the objectives.

Each round of this four-round-simulation focuses on a different topic. The rounds are:

  • Clarifying the vision

  • Setting the objectives

  • Making a prioritised work backlog based on the objectives

  • Execution

Learning objectives:

  • Choosing and defining the strategic themes

  • Prioritisation of the selected features in the backlog

  • Engaging different roles of the business in the collective work

  • Cooperation of multiple teams when working towards a common goal

  • Creating an agile culture in the organisation

Target Group

The simulation game is especially beneficial for any role related to product management, such as product owners, product managers, and team leaders. Also, business executives, IT, and architects benefit from the simulation.
