The task of a Release Train Engineer (RTE) is to help everyone involved understand the benefits of customer-centricity, an agile way of working, and continuous improvement. These, in turn, lead to the program meeting the objectives and succeeding on time. This role is at the centre of large development programs. An RTE works with a product management (PM) and system architect (SA), guiding agile release trains (ARTs) consisting of many teams in the direction the business owners have set. Most importantly, a Release Train Engineer embodies the principles of servant leadership, helping others achieve success.

In an ART, the RTE works as a conductor who ensures that work flows effortlessly between multiple teams. In practice, an RTE has the overall visibility and all required information of a venture to solve possible challenges with the stakeholders, allowing the performing teams to focus on their core work.
